Inclusive Dance for Teens/Adults with Disabilities and All Abilities
Express yourself dancing your body’s way to fun music! Class consists of warm-up and gentle stretching, moving and dancing, then cool-down – blending both choreography and free-dance in form and freedom. Dance movers discover their unique expression of movement as the guided dance unfolds. Movement modifications for every Body, including movers using wheelchairs or other mobility differences.

Maria facilitates inclusive art and dance for teens and adults of all abilities and disabilities. Art Creators and Dance Movers with disabilities along with ‘typical’ Artists and Dancers express themselves around a theme in their own unique, creative way. Modifications for every Body including people using wheelchairs, mobility differences, people who are deaf, blind and other differences. Maria weaves everyone together for a unique, expressive artful outcome co-created by an inclusive gathering of All.

Instructor
Maria Troiani-Howard
Maria has been dancing all her life, performing and teaching Jazz and Modern Dance through the years. When her son with Down Syndrome was born, her journey into the world of Inclusive Dance and Art began. Maria shares her passion for grassroots community inclusion where artists, movers and dancers of all levels and abilities are invited to her classes. In addition to choreography, technique and free-dance, students are guided to co-create movement their way, inspired by their unique experience and creative expression. Maria integrates artists and dancers of all abilities, learning and co-creating with each other. She facilitates people with ‘dif’abilities to discover their own ideas and participate in their artful creation. People using wheelchairs, mobility differences, people who are deaf, blind, and those with severe disabilities, along with ‘typical’ artists and dancers are engaged together.
Maria received her training in Inclusive Dance and Art at the American Dance Festival; Arts Together with NC Arts Council; Liz Lerman Dance Exchange Community Project; and Arts for ALL at the UNC Developmental Disability Training Institute. Maria has her Nia Technique Brown Belt and FreeDance Certifications. She is an engineer, mom to a Matthew, and loves dogs, trees, and celestial mystery.
